What is a brand strategy workshop and do architecture practices need one?

A brand strategy workshop is often the most valuable part of a rebrand or website project, and the most frequently skipped. Here's what it is and why it matters.

A brand strategy workshop is a structured session, typically two to four hours, in which a designer or strategist works with practice leadership to define positioning, audience, values and messaging before any design work begins. For architecture practices, it is often the most valuable part of a rebrand or website project, and the most frequently skipped.

The output isn't a mood board. It's a set of answers to questions that most practices have never formally addressed: who are we actually trying to attract, and why would they choose us over the practice down the road? What do we stand for that is genuinely distinctive, rather than simply aspirational? What does our best client look like, and what do they need to hear before they pick up the phone?

Practices that skip this step often find themselves with a beautiful new website that still fails to generate enquiries. The design is right but the strategy underneath it is absent. The workshop is what prevents that outcome.
